209 Comments on Experimental Viral Photo

With the implementation of the Facebook Timeline, photos are becoming more prominent than ever.

If you have a witty, creative photo, it can get more comments, likes, and shares than anything else.

So I decided to start creating photos with sayings that will cause interaction.

I had saw a friend who reshared an image that was black with white font, that said, “Describe your sex life with a movie title…”.

I decided to make it a more attractive image, but use the same words, and created this:

I then posted it to my Movie Star Entrepreneur fan page here, and then shared it to my personal wall to see how people would engage.

Since it was related to movies, it fit well to help with my brand.

On the post on my Movie Star Entrepreneur fan page, I had 72 comments.

Since I have yet to promote this fan page, and only have 349 fans, that did really well.

I also gained 5-6 fans from it.  Not record breaking, but it’s a start.

However, I was the only person to reshare it.

The problem with controversial topics like sex, politics, or religion is that it may get a lot of comments, but people are often hesitant to reshare it to their friends.

So next time I’ll think of something that others will be more likely to reshare.

On my personal wall, the reshared photo got 137 comments.

Now a few days out, it shows me the insights.

It reached a total of 980 people, and shows 45 people talking about it.

The image was clearly fun for people to interact with, and many people posted multiple movie titles.

This one received 2 shares, so again, people were hesitant to reshare.

I’ll continue to experiment, and post the results here.

Let me know any viral photos that you’ve enjoyed, and I may reimage them for my experimentation on my Movie Star Entrepreneur fan page.

Facebook Commenting on News Articles Creates Subscribers & Fans (From Harvard)

“The guys who made this video should work for ex-lax, because this video scared the sh&t out of me.”

That comment I wrote a few days ago on a Washington Post article, helped me realize the strategy I’m posting about here.

Facebook is beginning to integrate more and more services into it’s social platform.

The music service Spotify has been a great integration that allows us to see what friends are listening to, and then click play to listen to the songs they are listening to.  It’s a serendipitous discovery of music.

I’ve also enjoyed seeing what news articles my friends are reading.

What I’ve discovered is that by commenting on those articles, with a unique perspective, allows other people to discover who you are.

For instance, I commented on a Mashable article in The Washington Post reader about the viral phenomenon, “Lollipop”.

You can Click Here to read about it.

I commented the following:

As of this writing it’s had 56 likes, as you can see below, along with one comment from a Harvard girl, who I am trying to assure that the video will not be as scary as described.

Also, you’ll see that people can subscribe to me, or go to my fan page where it says, “MARS at The Movie Star Entrepreneur“.

Since my fan page has a catchy name, it causes people to want to click.

These articles get a lot of viewers, significant numbers of people can discover who you are.

Try it.

Comment at The Movie Star Entrepreneur fan page with your results.

Video Quote of the Day: “I saw an ad of Ryan Photoshopped in as Bob Barker…on The Price is Right.”

Ryan Deiss is a master of split testing. ¬†Whenever I see an ad of his, I click on it so I can examine the path I’m being led through.

I think what he’s doing with his Facebook ad that leads to his fan page is genius.

I’m not sure of the exact app that Ryan Deiss is using, but it has the same functionality as the North Social app seen here: ¬†http://northsocial.com/store/fan-offer/

Here is the ad that I clicked on where Ryan is Photoshopped in as the host of “The Price is Right”:

Video Quote of the Day: You’re going to be left behind if you’re a person who refuses to learn video editing…or, I guess, you can just pay me, and I will do it for you…but, it’ll cost you.

Here is the test I did on my personal profile.  The video above shows how I did it.

Movie Star Entrepreneur Show – Episode #107

Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be rolling out a new version of their messaging system.

It will now include email.  For instance, my facebook username is http://www.facebook.com/stopmar.

This will mean my email will be stopmar@facebook.com.

It’ll include text messaging, chatting, and email. ¬†Zuckerberg says that they didn’t want to replicate the typical email experience. ¬†They wanted to rethink communication.

Essentially this should rid us of SPAM as long as you have your privacy settings set appropriately.

For more in-depth information, there is a great Mashable article here:

What are your thoughts on the new messaging system?
